Over 1,200 companies have offices uptown and employ nearly 113,000 residents. Charlotte is the second largest banking center in the United States and these institutions are centered in the Uptown area including the headquarters for Bank of America and east coast operations of Wells Fargo.
Center City is always brimming with activity and offers every imaginable entertainment and recreational option for residents, visitors and employees. This vibrant area of the Queen City features the Time Warner Cable Arena which is home to the Charlotte Hornets and hundreds of concerts and events throughout the year; the Carolina Panther's Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte Knight's BB&T Ballpark, and the NASCAR Hall of Fame. There are also over 200 restaurants, a wide variety of hotels, the main public library, unique museums, performing arts facilities, theaters, galleries, places of worship, and at least a dozen parks including Little Sugar Creek Greenway, and several nearby hospitals. In addition, there are public and private school options including the main campus for Central Piedmont Community College and Johnson and Wales University's Charlotte campus. By way of getting around, Center City offers the LYNX Light Rail, LYNX Gold Line streetcar, mass transit bus center, Amtrak station, taxi companies, and is just 15-20 minute commute to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
