A native of North Carolina, Ray grew up in Mooresville, which is located 25 miles north of Charlotte. While attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he held the position of head cheerleader for the Tar Heels and graduated with an A.B. degree in History and Political Science.
After graduating, Ray moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, and began what would become a very successful career in investment banking at First Union Bank before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, a few years later to work at FNB in investment sales and trading. In 1977, Ray and his family headed north to the New York City area while worked for Ehrlich-Bober in investment sales, trading and underwriting. A few years later, he put roots down at Morgan Stanley and spent the next 19 years working in sales, sales manager, trader and derivative marketing.
Ray’s career path prepared him well to transition into the real estate industry in 2002, when they moved to Kiawah Island and later Charleston, South Carolina, when he embarked on a new venture as the Director of Sales for DPS Development, a real estate company that built second home communities in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; The Greenbriar in West Virginia, and The Turks and Caicos islands. In 2006, he and his wife moved back to Charlotte, her hometown and became a Broker/Realtor® at Cottingham Chalk and later joined The Maren Brisson-Kuester Team. He joined HM Properties in December 2018.
Ray has spent a lifetime building a solid reputation based upon trust and having respect for others. He truly enjoys working with each client Ray lives in the SouthPark area with his rescue dog, Buckley, a Shih Tzu/Pomeranian mix. His beloved wife Sunny, of 45 years passed away in 2014. Together, they raised three children; a daughter, Lyssa, who lives in the U.K., and two sons, Chad, in San Francisco and, Ian, who lives in Portland, Oregon, with Ray’s young granddaughter, Lucie, his pride and joy.
Not one to sit idle, Ray enjoys all the things to do in the Queen City including trying out new restaurants and cheering on the Carolina Panthers. He also works out regularly at the YMCA Express and has earned the First Level of the Court of Sommelier designation in wine. Ray is also an avid skier and enjoys hitting the slopes in the NC mountains and traveling to popular ski resorts throughout the U.S. His favorite place to visit is England.
