A native of Atlanta, Georgia, I lived all over the country before settling in Charlotte in 2002. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA (outside of Boston) and a Master of Science degree in Geology and Geophysics from the University of Hawai`i at Mânoa.

Following graduate school, I worked as a Research Associate for the University of Hawai`i Coastal Geology Group, a NOAA Coastal Management Fellow with the California Coastal Commission and a Regional Sediment Management Consultant with the California Coastal Conservancy.

In all these positions, my focus was on bridging the sometimes substantial gap in understanding of coastal issues between scientists, policy makers and homeowners. These experiences gave me a strong foundation in the legal, environmental and regulatory concerns associated with private property ownership. My goal as your real estate broker is to draw on the skills and knowledge acquired throughout my career to deliver a seamless transaction to you.

Melanie and her husband, Dr. Alex Stephens, live in Charlotte with their two dogs: Thomas and Maggie.
