Mary Ellen was born and raised in Charlotte. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and went on to earn a Master's degree in Education at Queens University.

After graduation, she was a teacher within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system for eight years and spent her last year at Charlotte Prep. After earning her real estate license, she worked at Bissell-Hayes Realtors for six years prior to joining HM Properties.

Mary Ellen and her husband, Chuck, have three children ranging from 5 months to 3-1/2 years old, and a dog named Maggie. In her free time, she enjoys reading, walking, aerobics, yoga and vacationing at the beach with her family.
